Vision of God

Corporate Worship is central to the life of the Church. At its most basic level, this is what the church is for; we will continue to worship in eternity. At Christ Presbyterian we believe it is important not only to preach the gospel, but also to order the worship service according to the structure of the gospel. There are probably numerous ways to do this; we choose to do it by following the structure of Isaiah’s vision of God recorded in Isaiah 6.1-9.

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.. And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke. (Isaiah 6.1-4)

We seek to pattern these verses by presenting ourselves with a vision of who God is through our Call to Worship and our Hymn of Worship. We strive for a first hymn that is objective, that is, it is a song about who God is, not about how we feel about him. The first thing we want in worship is a picture of God, that we might be encouraged in our worship of him who is infinitely worthy to receive it.
